For years Yemen has been experiencing a tremendous humanitarian crisis. As of an April UNHCR report, over 24 million people in the country are in need. Many refugees and asylum seekers especially from Ethiopia and Somalia have found themselves navigating a war in a country they fled to. Several migrants also come to Yemen temporarily intending to eventually go to Saudi Arabia. Due to movement restrictions, some migrants have not been able to leave Yemen. COVID-19 also heightened circumstances as the pandemic created a greater need for adequate sanitation amid an already limited supply of basic necessities. The availability of basic necessities to many in Yemen including displaced people remains extremely volatile.
